I think the only purposeless purpose in life is to be conditioned in order to be de-conditioned. The unlucky ones are those who are conditioned in such destructive ways, they have no tools to de-condition themselves and are thus trapped in misery. The brave ones are those who are conditioned in destructive ways, yet break the conditioning with no previous learned tools by making mistakes and learning from experiences. The lucky ones are those who have been conditioned in such a way, that they have the tools to de-condition themselves. Which of those are you?

Good teachers/parents condition their students/children in a way, so they have tools to be free. There is no need for detour. The same applies to music education.
