Mirage - An Architectural Sonic Experience
@Danish Pavillion under Olympic Games
The excerpt of my new audio-visual work "Mirage" is selected to be exhibited in Danish Pavillon under Olympic Games. The 3 screen version has been made for the exhibition.
About "Mirage":
"Mirage: The Architectural Experience" recalls man's close relationship with buildings and the lost instinct to play with sound and materials and their surroundings. Inspired by the French composer Erik Satie, the piece was recorded in Brønshøj Water Tower in Copenhagen, known for its breathtaking architecture and magical reverberations. Here, percussionist and composer Ying-Hsueh Chen bridges the gap between sound, buildings and material. As a kind of “sound medium”, Ying-Hsueh Chen evokes and reveals the characteristics of the buildings with the marimba. The water tower breathes and sings under Ying-Hsueh's sound architecture"
Here are a few difference stage/versions of the exhibitions:
July 20, 18:00 pre-premiere (one screen version) @ Foundation Danoise, registration required
July 20 - August 11, one-screen version will part of online exhibition "Plantery Sound" @ Le Bicolore
July 26 - August 11, the 3 screen version will be shown in Danish Pavillion (just off the Champs Élysées metro) daily from 11am to 10 pm under the Olympic Game. Free admission. Find more info here.
The production team:
Ying-Hsueh Chen, performer & composer
Rikke Benborg, directing and editing
Jacob Kirkegaard, sound
Christian Houge Laursen, camera & light design
Produced by Ancestral Modernism / Ying-Hsueh Chen
With generous support from Statens Kunstfond, Augustinus Fonden & Koda Kultur
