It was only 2 years ago, I suddenly realized what I was actually singing as a kid- and I was startled by the cruelty behind the song, covered by a thick layer of crusty sugar. This song " Fathers and Brothers You Are So Mighty" is still one of the MOST popular children's songs today, sadly enough. I have also sang many patriotic songs as a student in Taiwan. I remember vividly how it was to believe in nationalism. I used to be one of the strong believers.
I am fascinated by the phenomenon of how nationalism unconscious creep in our culture-- and it is still encouraged in many countries.
The days of being a believer of nationalism seems like a dream to me. It is a blessing that I have been able to live in United States and Denmark to see the world a little more differently.
Since then, I have become interested in finding out more propaganda songs in other countries. And I decide to make a theatre out of it.
